YWAM REFUGEE CIRCLE
In a time where mass migration is mostly associated with fear, and responded to from a place of self-preservation, we believe God has called the global Church to step forward - to not only receive the foreigner amongst us with dignity and love, but to also go - at the cost of self - to serve those who are seeking safe passage.
The YWAM Refugee Circle is a platform for teams and individuals that desire to serve in this time of crisis, as well as a place of connection point with long-term partners in the field who need committed workers, willing to lend strength in ministry.
In our experience in engaging the crisis, we quickly discovered the greatest needed resource was not just the basic physical necessities you might typically assume, but rather a need for people: a need for those marked by hearts of compassion who are willing to take a step of faith and help.
In 2015 and 2016 Europe was impacted by a sudden influx of millions of asylum seekers; most of them coming from the Middle-East where civil war and terrorism forced them to flee their home-countries. As the magnitude of the crisis became clear the church rose up and many short-term volunteers were mobilized to come and serve those who were arriving on Europe’s shores and those regionally displaced. Now in 2017 the momentum of the crisis has shifted, and so have the ministry dynamics.
While the need for short-term teams to come and serve remains, in many places greater impact can now be made by longer commitments. Those we serve have expressed that they benefit most from having committed workers come alongside of them. Our challenge to those who feel called to serve, is to consider at least a three-month engagement so that the following can happen:
- Empowerment of those who are settling in
- Assistance for those in transition
- Reaching out to those who are still in conflict zones
We have the joy of following Jesus’ command in Matthew - to care for the poor and needy, to go to all nations! So often when we pray and ask God to move in situations like the ongoing refugee crises, we see Him move us - the global Church - to be the answer to those prayers. When we align ourselves with His heart for the lost and broken, the impact of serving in great love becomes evident! There are so many stories of volunteers and outreach teams that have been hugely impacted, seen lives change and callings revealed through this crisis. Not only are we to serve on the front lines as believers, we are also to act as agents of change through Jesus - carrying His radical love to those who need it most. Here are just a few more reasons to come serve as an individual or bring your team:
Immediate impact into people’s lives
Teambuilding in a unique setting
Your team will experience first hand what God is doing in the nations
Build lasting relationships with people from different walks of life.
Sharing Jesus’ love in a practical way that changes lives.
Gain God’s heart for a broken world.
